My dad is an Artist. What price is best for him?
My dad is a Self Taught Artist painting watercolour of famous stars and sports personalities.
He seems to think that he can sell images for up to £500 and more, depending on what finer detail he's added to his paintings.
He seems to think that, because other artist's works are 'rubbish' and want a nice sum for their work, he can expect the same price, but for better work.
Is this how he shold go about it, if not, how does he do it?

A lot more goes into deciding how much a piece of artwork is worth than what it looks like. It includes:
the amount of time and effort that went into the piece
how much it cost to make (the type of mediums and parchment used)
the emotional attachment, if any, a person has with the artwork
the size and durability of the piece
the notoriety of the artist
It is important to review these points when discussing a price because the buyer will want to know why the art is worth the given amount. It isn't wrong to compare art with other painters' work but it is important to know that some people prefer different styles of art, even if your dad thinks his is better. Also, people who built up their reputation and are more well known are able to sell their artwork for a higher prices than beginners. I also know that people will spend a lot of money to get a picture of their favorite celebrity or athlete and the prices should be negotiable.
