Which color pencils should I get?

I'm currently using Derwent Studio (pack of 36), but my favourites were Design Spectracolor (my dad's, don't have them any more).
I usually draw things like this:

People have suggested Faber-Castell Polychromos or Sanford Prismacolor Premier.
Which should I get (it can be other brands), why, and how many colours?

I really like prismacolor pencils. I use them a lot and they produce great results. In fact, I usually do my line art with a prismacolor black before coloring and inking. They're very popular among illustrators, and can be very expensive. As a result, Michaels usually keep them locked up and you will have to ask for them. They have the boxes on display, so you can choose the set you want. As for what colors you need, that would depend on what you feel like drawing that day. I would suggest you to have as many colors in your arsenal that you can possibly afford. This way, you'll have more of a choice when it comes to coloring your drawings and can really bring out that subtle difference. If you're interested in trying prismacolor pencils or any other high quality brand, try the individual pencils that stores like Michaels sell. You can usually buy them rather cheaply.
